Our Picks for Fall in Philadelphia
Enjoy the best sights (and occasional frights) of fall in Philadelphia during your stay at The Rittenhouse. From a sprawling haunted house to a city-wide film festival to a family-friendly parade, this exciting season sees an eclectic variety of events and activities around town. There’s a little something for everyone and it’s all easily accessible from our hotel in Center City.
Throughout October, the autumn attractions in Philadelphia thrill and delight both local and visiting spectators. “The Terror Behind the Walls” is one of the largest haunted houses in the country and features six attractions across an 11-acre historic prison, right on Fairmont Avenue. For a less frightening but equally visceral experience, take a short trip outside the city to Longwood Gardens and enjoy the last month of Nightscape: A Light and Sound Experience, an awe-inspiring illumination installation. Seeking even more artistic inspiration? Check out the 25th Annual Philadelphia Film Festival, hosted by the Philadelphia Film Society during the final days of October.
There’s no shortage of events as the holiday season starts to really ramp up in November. Celebrating “the power of the personal,” local nonprofit organization First Person Arts showcases the craft of storytelling during an annual festival that includes appearances by comedians, poets, playwrights, and more. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Marathon displays a different kind of personal power during the weekend of November 18th with a full marathon, a half marathon, and an 8k race. As one of the top ten marathons in the country, it brings over 30,000 runners and 60,000 spectators to the City of Brotherly Love. Finally, the end of November is capped off with the 1.4-mile Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, the oldest Thanksgiving parade in the country.
Guests at The Rittenhouse during the months of October and November can also check out our ongoing on-site events and activities. Wine connoisseurs, take note: Lacroix will be hosting a Discover the Americas Wine Series, including special guest appearances by renowned sommeliers and winemakers from North and South America. In addition, the Rittenhouse Jazz series will bring talented musicians right to our hotel in Center City—enjoy live performances by Todd Pritchard, Chelsea Reed, and others. Whether you choose to explore Philadelphia or stay at the hotel for these on-site events, guests can also indulge with a rejuvenating treatment at The Rittenhouse Hotel Spa & Club.
